Search engine websites are provided to give people a place to go to conduct Internet search. A similar type of search is also provided by way of major search engine toolbars.
Usually when you visit the home page of search engine websites (i.e. Yahoo, Google, Lycos, or MSN search engines) you will find a variety of tools at your exposure. For instance a search bar (or search box) is usually displayed on the home pages of most of these sites. Moreover, you will usually be provided with other ways to further refine your search.
One of the ways that search engine websites uses to refine your search would be to allow you to click on a category search link. For instance, Google lets you click on the “image” search tab on their search engine website home page.
When you do this you will then be able to type in whatever search phrase you want and it will lead you to results of images. In other words, when you do an image search only images show up and nothing else.
Different types of Search Engines
There are major search engines that usually allow people to search from around the world. Some of these include Yahoo, MSN, and Google.
Other major search portals include Lycos, Ask.com, and other smaller search engines. Another type of search engine allows you to search more than one of these search engines at once.
One of the most popular multiple search engines is Dogpile. This one allows you to search the above three major search engines as well as some others.
In fact, when you visit the Dogpile home page you will see that you can choose which types of search engines that you would like to search. A whole list of them is displayed.
Aside from the major search engines, there are also smaller and more localized search engines to use. These are located more according to geographical search location, such as in the U.S., UK, Brazil, or other country. Usually these smaller search engines are designated by a country code extension of two letters.
Another type of search engine are directory listings. This is where classified ad listings, site promotion listings, and other types of listings appear. Another type of directory listing is article directory listing.
Usually articles are submitted to these sites for free for people to enjoy and read. Sometimes these articles are listed for the purpose of buying. Either way, there is usually room for those who submit article to directory links to add a link telling who they are.
